Program Impact

Marin County Program Impact In the 2008-2009 school year:

  • Students increased one grade level, on average, as a result of the Experience Corps tutoring.

  • 74% of students achieved significant academic progress.

  • 100% of principals were satisfied with the Experience Corps program.

  • 99% of members agree that their service was useful to the school and to the individual students they served.

  • 2010 Excellence in Nonprofit Volunteer Management Award from the Volunteer Center of San Francisco and San MateoReceived recognition from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Congressman Tom Lantos for Experience Corps' expansion efforts in the Bay Area.

  • Received recognition from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and Congressman Tom Lantos for Experience Corps' expansion efforts in the Bay Area.

  • Proclamation from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom recognizing Experience Corps Bay Area as it "leads the field in promoting lifelong learning and providing its members with pathways to leadership to maximize impact and provide a deep sense of purpose," May 2008. Volunteer Virginia Ganzon Sturwold received the President's Volunteer Service Award - "the highest honor given in recognition of those who have contributed their time and their talents to those in need" - from President George W. Bush on May 12, 2006, as part of the White House celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month.

  • Certificate of Recognition from California Assemblyman Fiona Ma, District 12 - presented to Experience Corps San Francisco members for exemplary leadership, relationship building, and community involvement, May 2008.

  • Volunteer Virginia Ganzon Sturwold received the President's Volunteer Service Award - "the highest honor given in recognition of those who have contributed their time and their talents to those in need" - from President George W. Bush on May 12, 2006, as part of the White House celebration of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month.

  • Volunteer Tess Manalo-Ventresca was honored with three significant awards in 2005 for her work with Experience Corps. She was designated California Woman of the Year by the California State Assembly, she received the National Older Volunteers Enrich America Silver Honoree Award from MetLife Foundation and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and was selected Asian Pacific American Local Hero by KQED and Kaiser Permanente.

  • Certificate of Recognition from California Assemblyman Leland Yee, District 12 - presented to three outstanding Experience Corps volunteers, August 2004.

  • Certificate of Recognition from California Assemblyman Mark Leno, District 13 - to Experience Corps for "providing the opportunity to youth and adults to create long lasting relationships and memories," August 2003 and August 2004.

  • Certificate of Recognition from California State Senator Jackie Speier, District 8 - to the Experience Corps team for "sharing their lifetime of experience with children," August 2003 and August 2004.

  • Certificate of Recognition from California State Senator John Burton - to Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center to "celebrate your partnership and expansion of the Experience Corps in service to San Francisco's children and youth," August 2002.

  • Certificate of Honor from San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown - to Experience Corps to "recognize and commend the San Francisco Experience Corps Team's innovative volunteer program…countless volunteer hours…dedication to giving students access to meaningful relationships with caring adults…and making San Francisco schools more personal for all students," August 2001.
