Program Impact

New York City Program Impact In the 2008-2007 school year:

  • The reading level of students who worked with Experience Corps members increased by 1.82 grade levels on average

  • 74% of students who worked with an Experience Corps member made significant academic progress, according to teacher reports.

  • 80% of students who worked with an Experience Corps member made significant in self confidence, according to teacher reports.

  • 99% of teachers agreed that students who were mentored by an Experience Corps member improved their attitude toward learning, their ability to complete assignments, their academic self-confidence and their overall behavior.

  • 100% of members agreed that their service was useful to the student they served.

  • 100% of members agreed that their service was useful to the school in which they served.

  • 99% of members indicate being satisfied with their overall experience with Experience Corps.



 

Awards and Recognition

Experience Corps has received the 2001 H. Barksdale Brown Volunteerism Award from the Alliance for Children and Families and the 2000 President's Service Award (Experience Corps was one of 20 programs selected for the honor from a pool of 3,500 programs that were considered). The Prejudice Reduction Project received a Presidential Citation from Bill Clinton (1997), the Mayor's Award for Volunteer Service from Rudolph Giuliani (1997), and the Mayor's Award for Voluntary Service from David Dinkins (1991).
