Experience Corps Portland
Experience Corps is hosted in Portland by Metropolitan Family Service. The program engages adults 55+ to help Portland area public school students who are having trouble learning to read. Participants tutor elementary school students one-on-one and in small groups, helping them to develop fundamental literacy skills so they can succeed in school and in life.
Metropolitan Family Service (MFS) invests in individuals and families that struggle with the many barriers associated with cultural and economic disparities, including inadequate education, health issues, isolation, unemployment, and poverty. MFS focuses on creating opportunities for children to succeed in their families, in school, and in the community by providing result-oriented programs in a safe environment, as well as on supporting older adults to help them maintain their independence and connections to the community through meaningful volunteer opportunities. Experience Corps has been hosted by MFS in Portland since 1997.
