Experience Corps Tucson
Experience Corps is hosted in Tucson by the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona. The program mobilizes the time, talent and experience of older adults who work in teams providing reading and literacy support to children in the Flowing Wells and Tucson Unified School Districts. Experience Corps members will provide one-on-one tutoring and other literacy activities for students in grades K-3 who are reading below grade level, with the goal of increasing their reading skills and making sure they are able to read at grade level.
The Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona, founded in 1965, is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through effective volunteerism. Experience Corps is a partner in education with local school districts. The program provides an infrastructure for older volunteers to serve effectively and comfortably within the school setting. Volunteer recruitment, screening, training, placement and management are all coordinated and supervised by trained Experience Corps staff. Experience Corps has been hosted by the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona in the Tucson since 2004.
